Today we hiked to Slate Lick. It was a gorgeous day to be outside! The wild flowers looked like they were glowing in the morning sun, and the trail followed the gorgeous stream. There were several Canada geese and a few ducks on the lake. After we set up our hammock camp, a group of folks riding horses came through. It sounded like thunder! We also heard a couple of great big trees crash and fall. (We actually SAW the second one go down. WOW!) When we were packing up to leave, we heard that the lake is going to be drained in order to make repairs to the dam. Whether the water is high or low, the stream, wild flowers, and hiking trails are gorgeous. If you want to see the lake this year though, it sounds like you should plan to go soon.
