On the way home, we took a tiny detour and looked at the next place where we hope to hike and camp. It's a spot that Wes explored when he was little, and it's a stone's throw from home.
This is the kind of spot that can entertain kids of all ages for hours. Plan to splash and play in the stream, hunt for wild flowers, and hike the trails, search for wild animal tracks, and see the 'water seep' where water drips from rock wall.
Basically, you take Brocks Gap Road to Yankeetown Road, then turn left on the dirt road, Marshall Run Road. Drive to the end of this path and you'll find a great spot to set up a primitive camp. (Beware though, this is a one lane, bumpy, dirt trail with enough room for one vehicle. There's a rock wall on one side and steep cliff on the other.) This part of the National Forest has no facilities, but there is a beautiful stream with tiny waterfalls, there is a clearing with a couple of established fire pits, and a couple of blazed trails.
